Senior Piping Engineer

We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of Sr Piping Engineer. Our client a major Oil & Gas Company in Tripoli, Libya. 

  • The Sr. Staff - Piping Engineer role will be on Projects in the oil & gas with different execution styles ranging from FEEDs to EPC.
  • Carry out FEED/ Proposal/ Detailed Engineering work for the green & brown fields' onshore projects, reviews for large sized projects with responsibility for conceptual and detailed design and provide necessary technical information for procurement in compliance with specifications/ data sheets and within budgeted quantity, man-hour and project schedules.


  • Provide expert advice and assistance to PMT, contractor, vendor and manufacturer on Piping
  • engineering.
  • Responsible  in review/preparation  of  Piping Technical  Specifications,  Data  Sheets  &  Material Requisitions
  • Responsible for Piping issues and deliverables on projects at all stages of the design process from data sheet preparation to inspection and testing.
  • Responsible in Technical  evaluation I clarification of Piping vendor  bids, plus the technical  bid evaluation reports to support order placement
  • Responsible in Review of Data Sheets, P&IDs, etc., multi - discipline and Supplier documentation for integration within Project design
  • Responsible in providing Input into scope of work, basis of design and FEED reports
  • Responsible in Project technical  support - familiarity with risk assessments, design reviews, HAZOPs, HAZIDs etc.
  • Review & facilitate inputs from other disciplines viz . BEDD, Process Design Basis, Process data sheets, P&IDs, key SLD, Control Philosophy , Piping Material Specifications , Electrical and Instrumentation Specifications for Packages, Power supply, Utility requirements , material selections, HSE & environmental regulations and other Project Specifications
  • Coordinate  Material Take-off (MTO) activities, identify  discrepancies  and  shortfalls, and take corrective action as required for all Mechanical items.
  • Review/Preparation of Purchase Requisitions for the procurement of piping and materials. Review vendor quality plans, ensure vendor material's compatibility and compliance with Project Specifications .
  • Responsible in review/preparing design calculations for piping and associated fittings using ASME I
  • Intl. codes and software .
  • Responsible  in review/preparing  piping stress  analysis  calculations  and support  design  using CEASAR-II or equivalent software.
  • Assist with Piping man-hour estimates and manpower planning for all phases of the Project
  • Knowledge of software for review/preparing Piping drawings using AutoCAD .
  • Support to Quality in terms of development of inspection and test plans and attendance during inspection and testing as necessary
  • Review I comment on vendor documentation
  • Technical support for installation and commissioning
  • Participate  in  HAZID,  HAZOP,  SIL,  3D  Model  review  &  other  design  review  meeting  with representatives of other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide  technical  support  to  construction  sites  and  commissioning  team,  during  installation, commissioning and startups, as required
  • Execution of work demonstrating commitment to safety and quality


Degree in Mechanical Engineering from recognized university


Chartered Engineer or Equivalent

Experience Required:

Minimum 15 year experience within the petrochemical and I or oil and gas industry, working for an established contractor, operator, or consultancy.

Field Of Experience       

  • Experience should cover detailed piping engineering and design in accordance to applicable codes and practices (ASME, ANSI , API, etc).
  • Experience in the review/preparation of Piping specifications , preparation and evaluation of bids, report writing, and presentations , etc.
  • Knowledge of applicable oil and gas related software programs.
  • Previous experience in the execution of FEED and EPC Projects
  • Knowledge of International Codes, standards & company specification applicable to Process Plant fabrication and design (ASME B31.3 , ASME IX, ASME VIII , ASME V, etc., ASTM & ANSI) .
  • Experience of mentoring / coaching  less experienced engineers and acting in a capacity as Lead Engineer covering all Piping disciplines
  • Experience of pipeline and equipment would be an advantage but not essential
  • Experience with major oil & gas companies projects is essential and at least one recent project size is more than 500 MM dollar
  • Able to effectively work and communicate within a multi - cultural environment
  • Flexible attitude, with good written and verbal communication skills
