Job Overview: A leading provider of Geoscience Software seeks a Senior Geoscience Advisor with strong background in Rock Physics (theory and practical) to join their Far East Team based in Kuala Lumpur. You will be responsible for executing consulting projects, teaching advanced rock physics training to customers, providing technical leadership, expertise, and supervision to technical members. Applicants invited with a minimum of 12 years technical experience in rock physics, have a passion for technology and how rock physics can be applied across oil and gas and low carbon sectors, plus the ability to support the development of new products and services. Preference for people living in Malaysia but the Company may consider people living elsewhere and will be open to supporting the relocation of a high profile rock physicist.

As a Senior Geoscience Advisor (Rock Physics), you are responsible for executing consulting projects, teaching advanced rock physics training to customers, providing technical leadership, expertise, and supervision to technical members. You are expected to be able to develop and implement best practice workflows delivering advanced solutions with the highest quality results for Company services. You should be able to successfully leverage your expertise in complex reservoirs to build, develop and manage strategies for creating new consulting services and software sales.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Far East Region Manager, your primary responsibilities will be to:
• Establish relationships of trust with your peers (Regional Sales, Marketing and Technical members of the Far East Team located at Perth, Jakarta and Mumbai beside Kuala Lumpur.
• Consulting Services
o Execute consulting projects, technical and provide training services to the highest quality and exceed client’s expectation
o Develop and implement best practice workflows to deliver advanced solutions for the Company’s services
o Create up to date and advanced training materials incorporating the latest Company technology and workflows
o Assist, develop and execute go-to-market strategies to increase consulting services and software sales
o Leverage your reservoir experience to create new value proposition of Company products and engage with customer’s technical buyers to explain these values
o Discuss with customer’s technical buyers the advanced technical concepts of the Company’s products and integrated workflows providing solution to challenges throughout the life cycle of a reservoir/field
o Conduct ‘needs for assessment’ analysis to understand client’s technical challenges and advice on the best solution using tailor made workflows
o Work closely with the Sales Teams to develop new consulting services and software sales.
• Operational
o Provide leadership and direction for individual technical staff within the region
o Advise technical members to prepare fit-for-purpose presentations to show the unique values of products and cross-product solutions to customers
o Guide and monitor the technical team to successfully execute software evaluation and consulting projects inside the Company’s office or customer’s site
o Assist the sales team in the on-going sales cycle to satisfy all technical requirements and preparation of technical proposal for consulting services and software sales
o Building and maintaining customer relationship at a level of trusted advisor
o Publish at least two (2) technical papers per year in technical conference or Journal of repute
o Prepare and deliver webinars on technical topics for both internal and external audiences.
o Attend seminars/conferences/webinars/roadshows as required to represent the Company and to keep abreast of new developments and trends relating to rock physics in oil and gas and relevant low carbon sectors.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
• Degree in a technical discipline essential – preferably in an earth science subject such as geophysics.
• Ph.D. in Rock Physics highly desired.
• Minimum 12 years technical experience in rock physics essential – i.e. well log data QC, conditioning, petrophysical evaluation, rock physics modeling and seismic calibration.
• Experience in a senior advisory rock physics role desired.
• Previous experience in devising and delivering training in rock physics highly desired.
• Have a high profile within rock physics essential – e.g., publication in recognized journals and papers at regional or international conferences and workshops.
• Strong technical skills in SOME following essential:
o Rock physics theories and models
o Rock physics diagnostics and modeling
o Rock physics uncertainty analysis
o Fluid substitution, scenario modeling
o Inverse rock physics modeling
o AVO modeling and seismic calibration
o Well log data QC and conditioning
o Petrophysical evaluation and pay summary analysis
o Checkshots and VSP processing and interpretation
o Borehole image processing and interpretation
o Time-lapse/4D rock physics modeling
o Anisotropic rock physics modeling
o Azimuthal AVO modeling
• Extensive experience with well log data and geology of APAC’s basins desired.
• Familiar with Mud Logging, Wireline Logging, MWD, LWD, and Borehole Stability/Geomechanics desired
• Hands-on experience on complex reservoir types (clastic, carbonate, sub-salt or unconventional) desired
