Reservoir Engineers – EOR/CO2 Project

Job Overview:           A Consulting Services Company specialising in Upstream Oil and Gas seeks two Reservoir Engineers to provide direct reservoir & petroleum engineering technical inputs to EOR/CO2 projects for their Middle East Operator Client. Applicants are invited with 15+ years’ experience in reservoir engineering. Experience in CO2 for EOR and/or CCUS is essential. The project will initially be for a period of 3 months but could be extended. The Company will organise all logistics such as work permits, travel and accommodation.

The main drivers of the work are:

    • Assess and generate potential CO2 demand scenarios/forecast for Client reservoirs – with different development plans to generate  building blocks with positive economics  in large scale.
    • Establish modelling strategy & perform high level evaluation.  
    • Identify high-level development concepts (scheme, spacing, length, …etc.)
    • Generate CO2 demand requirements/ production profiles.
    • Assess potential risks associated with large scale CO2 projects with mitigation measures.
    • Document the full assessment & summarize the main outcomes.

Responsibilities:         Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Working at the Oil Company site in their EOR Division, provide specialized reservoir engineering services during normal working hours from Sunday to Thursday.
  • Review reservoir geological and fluid properties, development history, field performances, identify the key reservoirs to be included in (detailed) simulation study.
  • Establish Modelling Strategy and perform the evaluation against other mechanisms (water flooding,...) to show added value of CO2. The scope would include EOS for compositional models, fine scaled sector models for miscible CO2 EOR, new development wells or work over of existing wells, assess recovery mechanism and identify areas of high incremental efficiency, etc.
  • Propose and simulate plausible CO2 EOR development concepts (development scheme, well pattern, spacing, length, WAG scheme, etc.).
  • Generate CO2 injection (supply demand) profiles, production profiles, together with development well & work over schedule, and surface facilities capacity requirements.
  • Based on simulated reservoir results, perform ‘upscaling’ and apply as analogue to reservoirs not simulated, generate production (oil, water, gas, CO2 stream) and injection (water, CO2) profiles
  • Perform development scenarios assessment, aiming at maximising oil recovery; identify potential CO2 EOR development risks, propose high level mitigation measures
  • Provide overall CO2 demand profiles/scenarios, the associated water injection, production profiles (including incremental to reference case); rank reservoir portfolio in terms of CO2 EOR development
  • Document the full assessment & summarize the main outcomes.
  • Provide weekly summary reports to keep the Management apprised of project status, including achievements for the week and issues/obstacles to progressing the project.

Preferences:               The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent essential. MSc or higher desired.
  • Strong Reservoir Simulations Background essential.
  • Minimum of 15’ years hands on reservoir model development and reservoir simulation experience essential.
  • Must be fluent with Eclipse/IX or/and Petrel Reservoir Engineering essential.
  • Hands on experience with any of t-Navigator and VIP/Nexsus an advantage.
  • Experience in similar kind of EOR/CCUS Projects highly desired.
  • Strong Delivery focus essential – can deliver high quality study within specified timeline.
  • Experience in Miscible gas injection EOR reservoir simulation (including SCAL input, hysteresis set up, sector models construction from full field simulation model, simulation run tuning) highly desired.
  • Experience in reservoir development scenario assessment and uncertainty analysis highly desired.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills is a must.
  • Previous experience in the Middle East advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills –ability to relay technical knowledge and concepts in a coherent and friendly manner.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English essential. Arabic advantageous.

Package:         A competitive Day Rate is on offer dependent on skills and experience. In addition, accommodation and per diem provided. Accommodation is serviced apartment with cable/internet. Flight by economy premium where possible. The Company will manage all of the logistics involved.
