Job Overview: A leading global Services Company in the Oil and Gas industry seeks a Petrophysics Product Owner to drive software development for their well analysis and petrophysical interpretation software portfolio. This is a great role for a Geoscientist with skills across petrophysics and potentially geomechanics, who has a passion for technology, and the desire to drive innovative solution advancements across these domains. You may be totally technical with no previous product management experience and the Company will provide all necessary training and support in taking on this role. Applicants invited with 5+ years in a petrophysical role, preferably with some involvement in technology development. This is a hybrid role where you will be expected to work from the office at least 2 days a week. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Solution Owner for the Well Analysis Portfolio, your primary responsibilities will be to:
• Become knowledgeable in the Company’s technologies and services.
• Build good working relationships with your peers and across the wider company matrix organization.
• Understand the challenges and drivers across petrophysics and how the Company’s solutions can help address these.
• Take responsibility for driving the technical advancement of the well analysis and petrophysical interpretation software. This includes geomechanics solutions. This includes creating, maintaining, and driving the product vision and roadmap in conjunction with line managers, and ensuring that prioritisation of features is based on customer needs, research and analytics.
• Develop relationships with customers to better understand customer needs and expand the reach of possible solutions.
• Work closely with customers, understand their current and future needs, timelines, usability expectations, whilst ensuring a positive customer experience during all engagements.
• Become an active member of the scrum team (who interact nearly on a daily basis) - responsible for defining stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritizing the team backlog to define features that meet the customer expectations, adhering to Agile methodology and best practice. Full training on Agile practices provided.
• Responsible for the Team Backlog – i.e. list of action items to be completed, such as bugs/defects, enhancement requests, nice to have etc. Update and maintain this Backlog.
• Work closely with customers to understand their requirements, refine the product and features, define their scope and create user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Work with the Quality Assurance Lead, to ensure that all developments adhere to the acceptance criteria defined.
• Take responsibility for adherence to Agile Development within the solution development lifecycle processes. Full training on Agile development provided.
• Work with the Solution Owner, executive management, and external stakeholders to help define solution priorities, product direction, and business and commercial strategy.
• Support line managers with requests from Sales & Marketing teams to generate go-to-market and sales-strategy materials and info/materials re new software releases.
• Be proactive in identifying and developing case studies with customers for the purpose of presentations at workshops, lessons learned, conferences, and also for publications in industry journals.
• Stay abreast of industry trends in relation to petrophysical solutions – e.g. what competitors are releasing, clients road maps, application of AI/ML in this domain, the application of data and solutions across the Energy transition for low carbon initiatives (e.g. CCUS, Geothermal..). Be proactive in sharing this knowledge across the Company.
• As required, demonstrate the current set of applications to customers and internal stakeholders and understand how the applications fit into the wider end-to-end subsurface and drilling workflows. This working knowledge of the application is essential to help prioritize actions/stories. Training provided.
• Strive to raise your petrophysical expertise – participate in professional societies, events, technical journals, internal meetings etc.
• Help define scope that drives resourcing needs.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
• Geoscience or Reservoir Engineering qualification (BSc., Msc. or higher)
• Minimum of 5 years industry experience applying petrophysical (and preferably geo-mechanical) workflows and technologies to real world examples essential.
• Previous experience in managing product teams in software development & commercialization, or in influencing product development highly desired – full training provided though.
• Understanding of geomechanics highly desired.
• Commercial acumen and business focus essential - to understand the value of the product to the customer.
• Customer focused essential – ensure a high level of customer satisfaction across all engagements.
• Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills essential - to work collaboratively and be confident working with customers.
• Technically confident essential - with the ability to collaborate/engage across technical domains in the organization.
• Previous experience of working in an Agile development environment highly desired but training provided.
• Passion for technological advancement essential – keen interest in driving innovative solutions for tomorrow’s Energy world!
• Strong project management awareness – timescales, priorities, resource allocations, deliverables, quality assurance etc.
• Strong team player – this role has a great deal of interactions with other teams and players. Managing stakeholder engagements internally and with customers is key!
