Overview A global leading provider of data management software, consultancy and services is seeking a Software Developer to support delivery of high quality software for their global oil and gas industry Clients. Working from home with infrequent visits to their Aberdeen or Kent office, you will liaise closely with their experienced team of developers, supporting the growing business demands and gradually take on more high level development responsibilities. Applicants are invited with good experience in developing software solutions using C++. Python and Java programming and experience of cloud technologies highly desired. No oil and gas experience needed but format domain knowledge an advantage, the key is good C++ development experience and a willingness to take on greater responsibility as you progress. Full training in oil and gas solutions provided. The role is open to graduates and professionals. New developers will be guided through the company’s products and methods to provide the skills necessary to quickly become a productive member of the team.

The Company, established for many decades, has developed unique solutions to assist their Clients in the retrieval and repair of legacy data, and in the consolidation and visualisation of this data. Their recovery software has become an industry standard front-end for conditioning big datasets including field, pre- and post-stack seismic for in-house or cloud computing and analytics. They have additional tools to help clients maximise the efficiency and speed of automated trawling and analysis on their data libraries.

The Company is exploring how machine learning can be applied to oil and gas seismic data with a view to further software solutions.

The Company has a flat organisational structure and a small dynamic, friendly team working together to produce unique solutions addressing industry needs. They have offices in Kent, Aberdeen and Houston.

This role is ideal for a scientific/analytical individual who enjoys developing technical solutions to address business needs. The role offers the opportunity to develop leading edge solutions within the oil and gas industry and to further develop your career and take on more product responsibilities. Training is provided. Open to graduates or experienced individuals.

The Company has many staff developing software from home and the process works well. You would have infrequent visits to their office in Kent or Aberdeen in the UK.

Responsibilities Preferences references: The successful candidate will have:

A scientific/analytical based degree preferred (e.g. Computer Science, Maths, Science or Engineering).
Some background in the oil and gas industry or geoscience disciplines highly desired but not essential. Experience of Seismic SEG formats highly desired.
Good C++ software development experience essential
Python and Java highly desired.
Experience with cloud - AWS, Azure, GCP and deployment techniques including PowerShell of interest.
Application of project management methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall desired
Experience of developing software for large datasets desired.
High level of attention to detail
Self-starter with initiative who takes personal responsibility and pride in their work
Ability to be productive and self-motivated as can work from home.
Team player – working closely with experienced development team.
Leadership potential is a plus
Some understanding of machine learning applications of interest.
Previous experience of managing/leading software projects of interest.
Excellent interpersonal skills essential – the ability to communicate effectively with both colleagues and clients.
Can work independently and also be an excellent team player.
A clear and genuine interest in technological trends.
Highly analytical/methodical – the ability to understand the problem, the tools available and to deliver the solution.
Has the ability to listen and discuss technical matters in a clear and articulate manner.
The confidence to express ideas as part of a creative team with a desire to push boundaries.
Willingness to take on greater responsibilities as you progress – this is key

Other Information Package: A Base Salary of £30K - £60K on offer dependent on skills and experience. This role is open to graduates or professionals – you can work from home with infrequent visits to their Kent or Aberdeen office.
